Give San Tan Valley the Right to Vote on Whether or Not to Incorporate.

Give San Tan Valley the Right to Vote on Whether or Not to Incorporate.

Since 2004 the neighboring towns of Florence and Apache Junction have taken advantage of the six-mile and blocked the residents of San Tan Valley from even putting an initiative on the ballot. Arizona law needs to change. With almost 95,000 residents in San Tan Valley and at least twice the size of any other community in Pinal County, it's time for the majority to finally have a say in their future.

In the 2015 legislative session, SB 1423 was introduced and successfully made it through the Senate Government Committee, the Rules committee, Committee of the Whole and officially passed the Senate on March 9th. The bill was then held up by House Speaker David Gowan, LD 8 Rep TJ Shope, LD 8 Rep Frank Pratt and LD 16 Rep Doug Coleman. The Leagues of Cities & Towns, the Town of Florence and the City of Apache Junction also fought the bill. The bill was intentionally blocked in the House of Representatives and while we tried every way possible to force the bill to be heard, we lost the fight.

2016 will be here before we know it and 2016 is an election year as well. It's time to let our elected legislators and our Governor know that we are tired of being silenced. Change the six-mile rule. Give the residents of San Tan Valley the right to vote on the type of government that governs them.
