“Dear FUSD Family,
It is with great pride I write this letter to all of you. Over the past eleven years, I have served the District as a School Board Member, School Board President, Assistant Superintendent and District Superintendent. With the vision and support of the Board, I have always put KIDS FIRST and focused on creating better futures for our students. The most recent accomplishment under my leadership was the partial consolidation with Coolidge Unified School District.
The consolidation will have a positive impact upon our District for many years to come, including providing students with more opportunities in advancement and programming. This is a proud piece of my legacy and will always be a reminder of the great things we can accomplish when we come together for the benefit of children.
That said, with the anticipated approval of the Governing Board, I will be officially resigning as Superintendent of the Florence Unified School District effective March 8, 2017. This decision has not been made lightly and required the love and support of my family. My children are my guiding light and we have made this decision together. I look forward to serving the educational community in the future. As of now, it is time for me to pursue new personal and professional advancements.
I am recommending that the Governing Board appoint Mr. Chris Knutsen as Interim-Superintendent. I am confident in his ability to lead our District into the future and hope that all concerned with provide him with the highest level of support.
I will leave the District with my head held high for all we accomplished together and with this quote from Abraham Lincoln, “And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.” We have succeeded together and you will continue to succeed in the future. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Superintendent.
Amy P. Fuller, Ed.D”
Quote from Mrs. Denise Guenther, Florence Unified Board President: “The Florence Unified School District is grateful for Dr. Fuller’s 11 years of dedication and service to the children and families in our community. She has always put KIDS FIRST and we appreciate her unwavering support for our district. We wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors. On behalf of the board I want to thank her for everything she has done for our community. The School Board will work closely with Mr. Chris Knutsen in an effort to best serve our students and community moving forward. He has been a very strong leader in our district for the past 9 years, and we are excited to continue to evolve and excel under his leadership."
Dr Fuller's employment contract was until the end of the 2016-2017 school year, however her resignation is effective immediately.
