POPS Program at Ranch Elementary

At J.O. Combs Unified School District, students in the Program for Outstanding Preschool Students (POPS) enjoy a variety of hands on activities in the classroom. The classrooms are filled with preschool students that receive special education services, in addition to typically developing peers who are in the classroom as peer models. The peer models have a job and that is to model appropriate behavior and language for the other students in the class.

Pinal County Sheriff’s Office donates $500 to Central Arizona College’s Criminal Justice Club

With a smile and a few words of inspiration, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu presented a check for $500 to Central Arizona College’s Criminal Justice Club at the college’s administration of justice program (AJS) luncheon.

Pilot program of renting textbooks spells savings for CAC students

Just when you thought renting items became a thing of the past, a new innovation has swept across Central Arizona College’s bookstores that are operated by Barnes & Noble.

Students now can rent their textbooks, saving more than 50 percent of what it would cost to purchase a brand new copy. The conveniences are unending - students can rent in-store or online, and the textbooks are available for pick-up or delivery. The bookstores also accept financial aid.

Registration begins Aug. 2 for CAC’s ESL classes in Northern, Western Pinal County

Pre-registration for Central Arizona College’s English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELAA or ESL) classes will start on Thursday, Aug. 2.

Students should preregister at any one of CAC’s 10 locations in Pinal County and must show proof of legal presence in the United States.

Pumpkin Character Book Reports

Brooke stated that STRIPES is her favorite book!

The First Graders at Ranch Elementary sure are creative!

The students were given a family homework assignment. The students selected a story book that they wanted to read. Together the family read the book and discussed the events of the story with a focus on the main character in the story.

The next part of the assignment is where the creativity began. Each student needed to transform a pumpkin into the main character of the storybook without carving the pumpkin.

Professor from China, students from Brazil will join CAC community this fall as part of exchange program

Central Arizona College anticipates welcoming new students and faculty from abroad.

Northeastern University in Shenyang, China, again will be sending a visiting professor to teach at CAC during this coming fall semester. Professor Hao Lixia, who is part of the English teaching faculty in the NEU Foreign Studies College, will arrive in time for the fall semester.

Poston Butte Receives Spotlight on Innovation Award

Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction, John Huppenthal presenting Poston Butte Principal Dr Richards with the Spotlight Innovation Award

Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction, John Huppenthal, spent some time Monday morning at Poston Butte High School. During a school wide assembly he was able to see and hear how "Bronco Strong" the students and faculty really are. He watched the cheer and pom squads perform, listened to the band play and even got to watch the principal, Dr Tim Richards, run around the basketball court encouraging half the students to yell "Bronco" and the other half to yell "Strong". It was quite a high energy assembly, but what was it all about?

Rocktacular returns to Central Arizona College on Oct. 28

PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. – Central Arizona College’s Signal Peak Campus will be the location of the latest Rocktacular on Friday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m.

With CAC’s Don P. Pence Center for Visual & Performing Arts undergoing extensive renovations, the show will be held in the plaza in front of the campus’ Student Services (M) Building.

The concert will showcase the talents of students in the college’s entertainment industry technology (EIT) program’s performance skills class. In addition, students from the program’s songwriting class will perform.

With demand increasing for trained pub­lic safety personnel, Central Arizona College is poised to capitalize on the surging growth industry following an extensive evaluation of its emergency services, fire science and law enforcement training programs.

In the spring the director positions for Central Arizona Regional Law Officers Training Academy and for CAC’s fire sci­ence/ emergency medical services program became vacant, creating a unique oppor­tunity to do an internal study of the entire public safety program.
