Peer learning community at Harmon Elementary School

Harmon Elementary, 39315 N. Cortona Drive in San Tan Valley, prides itself on being a highly collaborative school from the top down. Administration, faculty, and students work together to create an environment where all students can achieve to their highest potential, according to a press release. This collaboration certainly exists with the adults on campus when it comes to following the state standards and the education of students, but also exists within the stu­dent body itself with peers assisting peers.

Patriotic- Themed Music Program

On Tuesday, November 9th the 2nd and 3rd grade students at Simonton Elementary School presented a patriotic-themed music concert.  Students were given the opportunity to accompany their classmates on several songs using xylophones, met-allophones, glockenspiels, and rhythm sticks.  On other songs, students presented play parties, which are kind of a combination of a game and a dance.

Over 200 Students from 14 Schools Competed at San Tan Foothills in the FBLA Regional Competition

This past Saturday, January 28th, over 200 students from 14 schools across Arizona, ventured out to San Tan Foothills High School, in San Tan Valley, AZ, to compete in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Regional Competition.

The students competed in a number of different categories ranging from Job Interview Skills to Entrepreneurship and Financial Systems to Marketing Presentations.  The competitions were either individual or group presentations and were judged by local business people and community residents from Coolidge, Florence, San Tan Valley and surrounding areas.

Outside the Box… With Many Hands

Even in tough economic times, amazing things can and do happen. It all begins with creative ideas and people willing to “think outside the box”. Over the past several years the Marching Coyote Regiment of Combs High School has had to rely on support and scheduling flexibility from the CHS football and soccer programs and coaches in order to have a location to practice. With football, soccer and marching band having frequent and lengthy practice requirements, sharing a practice field is not ideal. A field directly in front of the band room which is hoped to be a future Auditorium/Performing Arts Center, meanwhile remained empty and unused.

One Simple Wish crowns winners at CAC’s 11th Annual Black History Month Poetry Contest

PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. – The top three poets from this year’s 11th Annual Black History Month Poetry Contest were selected on their ability to artistically express one simple wish.

Amber Morgan took first place, Alice Shoaf placed second and Alisha Akin grabbed third in the competition that was open to the entire community. This year’s theme was One Simple Wish.

Poston Butte High School To Open BroPher Bistro to Public

In the spring of 2013 Poston Butte High School Culinary instructor Amanda Celaya submitted an application to the Lowes Tool Grant committee for the purpose of building an outdoor dining area adjacent to the PBHS Culinary Classroom and Banquet Hall.  A Grant in the amount of $3,825 was awarded.

Poston Butte High School Student Semi-Finalist for National Merit Scholarship

Ryan Arbon

On Wednesday, September 10th Ryan Arbon, Senior at Poston Butte High School, was notified that he is a National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist. He is one of only 289 students in the state of Arizona and 16,000 Nationwide (1.5 million total entries) chosen as semi-finalists for this award. If Mr. Arbon is chosen, he will be one of only 8,900 students nationwide who receive this prestigious award. Ryan was the only student in San Tan Valley or Queen Creek chosen as a semi-finalist for this award.
