Mountain Vista Centennial Quilt

Students from Mrs. Vasallo’s 2010-2011 sixth grade art class will be represented this year during the Centennial Celebration.

Mrs. Vasallo was one of the women who worked on the State of Arizona’s Centennial Quilt.

Her students were so inspired that she worked with them to make a miniature quilt that will also be part of the Centennial Quilt project and tour the state of Arizona this year.

San Tan Valley Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting welcoming Scrubs & More Boutique to the community and into the Chamber

After careful review of all of the facts surrounding the cafeteria incident of May 17, 2013, the School Board of J.O. Combs Unified School District stands behind and fully supports the decisions of the Combs High School Administration. Policies and procedures were followed appropriately. There are many facts which were not initially presented, or announced by the media, which fully support the discipline invoked, which involve the suspension of twelve students. Only three seniors were involved, among whom only one may have been eligible to participate in graduation ceremonies. The consequence of suspension prohibits students from being on campus, participating in extra-curricular activities or competing in competitive events. A suspension received this time of year impacts all end-of-the-year events, including the graduation ceremony.

MT Vista Holiday Food Drive a Success!

The Mountain Vista Middle School’s student council sponsored a holiday food drive to benefit Saint Mary’s Food Bank.

With tough economic times still facing may people, the Wolverines wanted to step up and do their part.

The students collected a little over 1000 non-perishable food items to donate to needy families.

Mt Vista Academic Exhibition Night

On May 12, 2011 Mountain Vista Middle School sponsored an Academic Exhibition Night.  From 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. parents were treated to academic displays including video book reports, an art gallery, STEM projects, Science Fair projects and experiments, and many Language Arts Projects.  There was also a dance performance by the seventh grade students who took dance in the second semester.

Mt Vista 8th Graders & DUIs

8th Grade DUIsThe eighth grade Mountain Vista Middle School students had the tremendous opportunity to participate in a simulated Driving Under The Influence Activity.  Deputy Delcia Randall, the school’s resource officer, brought in the Pinal County Sherriff’s Golf Cart and goggles to simulate how dangerous it is to drive under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

At Coolidge Unified School District’s September 14th regular Governing Board meeting, Mr. Joe Galish, Business Teacher and FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) Advisor for San Tan Foothills High School, was recognized for receiving the New Advisor of the Year Award for FBLA at the 36th Annual Arizona State Conference for CTE (Career & Technical Education).

The Mountain Vista Middle School Wolverines celebrated the Leap Year by holding its Second Annual Science Fair.

Students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades conducted scientific investigations and presented their projects to their classmates and then proudly displayed them at the Science Fair.

Mountain Vista NJHSOn March 3, 2011 Mountain Vista Middle School, inducted its first members into the National Junior Honor Society.  The Wolverine Chapter has 32 new members in grades 6-8.  National Junior Honor Society membership has been earned by the effective demonstration of the five qualities held in high esteem by the Society:  scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character.

Mountain Vista Mock Trial WinnersOn Friday, March 4, 2011 Mountain Vista Middle School sent a team to the Mock Trial Competition in Florence, AZ.  The Wolverines competed against teams from various schools in the area.  They won their trial and also picked up an award for Best Closing Argument.

Mountain Vista Middle School Wolverines Show Support for Sandy Hook Elementary Students

This week the Mountain Vista Middle School Wolverines showed their love and support for the students and staff of Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The initiative was headed by Mrs. Amber Allen, the Master Teacher for Mountain Vista.

Students cut out over 700 snowflakes to send to the Snowflakes for Sandy Hook project sponsored by their PTSA.

Interim President Doris Helmich is focused, energetic and determined to heal the divisions that have bruised Central Arizona College. She talked about her goals and challenges as the new year approaches.

“I’m doing a needs assessment of the district right now,” she told the Dispatch. “So what I’m doing is I’m doing a lot of listening, and I’m listening to what folks are saying both internally and externally.”
