Combs elementary schools offer flag football
For elementary students, NFL flag football is on the way.

Measure on Nov. 5 ballot would allow a 5% increase over minimum state funding
Voters in the J.O. Combs Unified School District will be asked on Nov. 5, 2013 to authorize a Maintenance and Operations budget that would exceed minimum state levels by 5 percent.
The funding would be used to reduce class sizes, reinstate competitive athletics for the middle school and continue providing for such special programs as fine arts. It will also allow the district to provide salaries and benefits that will help recruit and retain quality staff.
The J.O. Combs Unified School District received the Association of School Business Officials International’s (ASBO) Certificate of Excellence (COE) in Financial Reporting award for the fourth year in a row, having met or exceeded the program’s high standards for financial reporting and accountability. The district was recognized for its high quality Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending 2013.

1. District enrollment is 4,461 students which includes Community Pre-K through Grade 12.
2. Angel Madera, a 5th grader from Simonton Elementary won the District Spelling Bee held on January 24th. Tynan Cameron, a 5th grader from Harmon Elementary placed 2nd while Emmalee Flake, an 8th grader from J.O. Combs Middle School placed third. Alternates were Landon Weidner, a 5th grader at Combs Traditional Academy and Tristen Powell, a 7th grader from the Middle School. The Pinal County Spelling Bee will take place in Casa Grande on February 17th.
There was no shortage of children eager to answer a question posed by Breanna Flynn during a class on Aug. 6, the second day of the new school year, at Harmon Elementary School in San Tan Valley.
It is part of the J.O. Combs Unified School District. According to Harmon Principal Ames Singley, the school was proud to have advanced from a C to a B letter grade ranking by the Arizona Department of Education based on the improved results by its students during the spring Arizona’s Instrument to Measure Standards testing period.
This year, the J.O. Combs Unified School District has partnered with Banner Ironwood in a Student of the Month program which recognizes one student every month from each of our schools.
There is a selection process in place where students get recognized for the various pillars of the Character Counts Program which include Responsibility, Trustworthiness, Citizenship, Caring, Respect and Fairness.
This presentation will take place each month at our Regular Governing Board Meeting where a representative from Banner Ironwood Hospital will be in attendance to present each student with a Certificate of Special Recognition.
