FUSD Certified (Teacher) Employee of the Month

Ruben Gutierrez was honored as the Certified (Teacher) Employee of the Month for January.

"Ruben is one of our newer teachers as far as time in the teaching profession," said principal Bellemare, "but he has been involved in many things: Student Council advisor, TIPS mentor, ALEKS coordinator, volleyball coach and more.

FUSD Announces BeyondTextbooks

Florence Unified School District is pleased to announce that a new program will be implemented district-wide starting on Monday, November 8th called Beyond Textbooks.

The J.O. Combs Unified School District is excited to welcome over 4,500 students for the 2012-2013 school year. Combs High School serves students in grades 9-12, J.O. Combs Middle School, grades 7 and 8, and our elementary schools provide instruction for students in grades kindergarten-6th. All teachers in our district are appropriately certified and highly qualified and all classrooms are equipped with state of the art SMART Board technology.

FUSD Nick Trakas Receives Arizona Technology Education Association’s “Educational Technology Specialist of the Year” Award

On July 9th, Nick Trakas, Technology Integration Specialist, was recognized as the Educational Technology Specialist of the Year by the Arizona Technology Education Association. FUSD Kindergarten Registration Begins!

Kindergarten registration at all K-8 schools in Florence Unified School District will start tomorrow, Wednesday, February 15th and Thursday, February 16th, during parent/teacher conferences, and will continue during regular school hours starting on Friday the 17th.

FUSD K-8 Spelling Bee Semi-Finals

As the semester wound down toward Winter Break, many students in our K-8 schools had visions of consonants and vowels dancing in their heads, and now the District is buzzing with the news of the victorious few who came out on top in their schools' Spelling Bees! The winners will move on to the District-wide Spelling Bee, which will be held on January 24th at 6:30 in the Circle Cross Ranch cafeteria. (Copper Basin K-8 semi-final will be held after winter break.)

FUSD Governing Board received two districtwide Energy Star Leader Awards

The FUSD Governing Board received two districtwide Energy Star Leader Awards on behalf of the District.

One awards was for "achieving a portfolio average energy performance score of 79 for the year 2012."

FUSD Governing Board Members Receive ASBA Awards

Florence Unified School District Board Members Bob Ingulli, Bob Dailey and Denise Guenther were recognized at the October 2012 FUSD Governing Board meeting for achieving awards for Boardsmanship. The awards, presented by the Arizona School Business Association (ASBA), honor school board members for personal efforts toward improvement; as incentive for voluntary board member in-service training; to promote the idea of better boardsmanship; and for service in ASBA, NSBA, or local board activities and events.

FUSD Future teachers win at statewide competition

The Future Teachers of Florence Unified School District competed in the annual Future Education Association (FEA) statewide competition on March 1-2, and took home awards and scholarships, according to a press release.

The group includes students from both Poston Butte High School and Florence High School. Samantha Guy, Rebecca Victor and Alisha Degaugh of Poston Butte took first place in the Early- Childhood Display Competition where they had to develop skills in planning a de­velopmentally appropriate teaching concept, demonstrate abilities to select appropriate activities for young children and work creatively in planning around a theme.

Florence USD has been asked to showcase our technology implementation at the National School Board Association's Technology & Learning Conference this week in Phoenix! Nicole Steele, Director of Technology will be speaking about 1:1 computing, with a focus on planning and implementation on Wednesday, 10/20, and on Thursday, 10/21, a panel comprised of Dr. Nine (Superintendent), Ms. Steele, Dr. Pappalardo (principal at Poston Butte) and Mrs. Monks (School Board President) will be answering questions about the benefits of going 1:1.
