CAC Governing Board requesting input on potential of aligning with Pinal County Supervisors Redistricting Plan

The Pinal County Community College District Governing Board is seeking input from the community on the potential of following the pre-cleared Pinal County Supervisors Redistricting Plan adopted by the county on Oct. 19, 2011.

For the last several weeks, the PCCCD Governing Board has collected feedback on two proposed maps developed for Central Arizona College. This third option would align CAC’s Governing Board Districts with the Pinal County Supervisors Districts.

CAC on target for reaccreditation

PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. – As Central Arizona College prepares for its reaccreditation process, the Higher Learning Commission acknowledged in its status report of CAC’s Action Projects that the institution’s recent accomplishments were impressive and the college was making great strides in meeting its originally stated goals.

The final report was issued in October of 2011 and is a strong indicator that Central Arizona College is moving in a positive direction as it prepares to be evaluated for reaccreditation.

CAC math professor Kaiso Chuang receives George Fridell Excellence in Teaching Award

Kaiso Chuang, professor of mathematics at Central Arizona College since 2005, has been named one of five recipients of the college’s George Fridell Excellence in Teaching Award for 2012.

Formerly known as the President’s Award, the George Fridell Excellence in Teaching Award is presented annually in memory of Fridell, who passed away several years ago.

CAC hosts entertainment law seminar: Entertainment Law from the Trenches on Feb. 20 at Signal Peak

Central Arizona College’s Entertainment Industry Technology program will host a seminar titled Entertainment Law from the Trenches on Mon., Feb. 20, at the college’s Signal Peak Campus.

The two-hour event begins at 6 p.m. and is open to the public at no cost. The program will be held in Room 116 of the Sheldon Building (Building T) at the Signal Peak Campus which is located between the cities of Coolidge and Casa Grande just east of I-10.

CAC helping Pinal County residents earn GED with no-cost test prep classes

PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. - Central Arizona College is gearing up for another semester of helping students earn their General Educational Development (GED) diploma at several locations throughout Pinal County this spring semester.

GED classes will be divided into two eight-week periods and are currently provided at no cost for Arizona residents.

CAC Governing Board backs findings of Pinal County Transit Feasibility Study

PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. – The Pinal County Community College District Governing Board backed the findings of the Pinal County Transit Feasibility Study conducted over the past three years by the Pinal Central Express Partnership.

The approval came on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Central Arizona College’s Superstition Mountain Campus during the governing board’s monthly meeting.

CAC seeking exhibitors for Eighth Annual Job Fair on April 5 at the Signal Peak Campus

Central Arizona College is seeking exhibitors for its Eighth Annual Job Fair that will be held at the Signal Peak Campus on Thursday, April 5, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the George Young Activity Center.

According to event’s organizer, Ann Mitchell, this year’s job fair will be more student-focused in an effort to assist students in their search for available positions after graduation, as well as during their academic careers.

Central Arizona College's Career & Job Fair comes to the college's Signal Peak Campus for the seventh time on Thursday, Apr. 7.

CAC science student Kady Bryant conjuring up winning formula for Miss Arizona contest

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. - Kady Bryant, 19, has been a performer her whole life.

“My entire high school career was nothing but plays and flag line,” Bryant, who attended Apache Junction High School, said.

After high school, Bryant became a Promise for the Future scholar at CAC’s Superstition Mountain Campus. At SMC she was able to explore the field of science by taking chemistry and biology courses, but something was still missing.

CAC Ribbon Cutting Celebrates Future

Dignitaries surround Gladys S. Christensen, president of the Central Arizona College Governing Board, as she wields the scissors during last week’s ribbon cutting  ceremonies for the new building and remodeling of the Superstition Mountain  Campus.

During last week’s Ribbon Cutting ceremony celebrating the new building and  remodeling project on the Superstition Mountain Campus of Central Arizona College (CAC), President Dr. Doris Helmich thanked the community and all involved for “helping students realize their dreams.”

Other speakers included Apache Junction City Manager George Hoffman who pointed out that the economic development of an area “depends on an educated workforce.” He thanked citizens of Apache Junction and Pinal County for passing the $99 million bond in 2008 from which the funding for these vast improvements of the Superstition Mountain campus was derived.

CAC professor of English chosen to present paper at American Literature Association Conference

Heather Moulton will present a paper about Ed­gar Allan Poe at the conference.

 

Central Arizona College Professor of English Heather Moulton has been selected by the Poe Studies Association to present a research paper entitled Poe Revenant.

Moulton’s presentation will be part of a panel called Teaching Poe to Today’s College Readers during the American Literature Association’s (ALA) 23rd Annual Conference in late May in San Francisco.

The Poe Studies Association is a scholarly organization dedicated to the life and work of 19th Century author and poet Edgar Allen Poe.
