The sounds of electric saws, nail guns and heavy equipment reverberating throughout Pinal County are nothing unusual given the machine shop classes and John Deere programs offered by Central Arizona College.
But the regular din of background construction noise has been amped up by the excitement of a future sprouting all around the Pinal County Community College District.
PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. – Karen Hindhede, full-time professor of English at Central Arizona College since 2009, has been named one of five recipients of the college’s George Fridell Excellence in Teaching Award.
Formerly known as the President’s Award, the George Fridell Excellence in Teaching Award is presented annually in memory of Fridell, who passed away several years ago.
With a lineup of classes that includes Cake Decorating, Baking and Pastry I & II and Everything Chocolate, one might wonder if Central Arizona College’s culinary arts program offers baking as a major.
Beginning in the fall of 2013, that will, in fact, be the case as CAC will add a baking and pastry certificate as well as an associate degree.
CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – Decorated Vietnam War veteran and esteemed psychologist and psychotherapist Dr. Larry Germanson will be teaching a class at Central Arizona College’s Corporate Center aimed at increasing awareness and preparation for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The course, offered through the college’s community education program, costs $49 to attend and will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday evenings Feb. 27-March 26. There will be no class March 12 due to CAC’s spring break.

PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. - The Central Arizona College Board of Governors approved the recommendation by the CAC administration to purchase approximately 208 acres of land in the San Tan Valley for construction of the college's new campus in the area.
The approval occurred during the board's monthly meeting held on Tuesday, Aug. 16, on the Signal Peak Campus.
The property is located on the northeast corner of Bella Vista Road and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks, approximately one mile east of the Bella Vista-Ganzel Road (Ironwood Road) intersection, and roughly two miles east of the Hunt Highway-Bella Vista Road intersection at Johnson Ranch.

PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. – As Central Arizona College prepares for its reaccreditation process, the Higher Learning Commission acknowledged in its status report of CAC’s Action Projects that the institution’s recent accomplishments were impressive and the college was making great strides in meeting its originally stated goals.
The final report was issued in October of 2011 and is a strong indicator that Central Arizona College is moving in a positive direction as it prepares to be evaluated for reaccreditation.

Central Arizona College’s Entertainment Industry Technology program will host a seminar titled Entertainment Law from the Trenches on Mon., Feb. 20, at the college’s Signal Peak Campus.
