Central Arizona College alum Adriana Saavedra has been named as the college’s director of library services.
Saavedra comes from the city of Coolidge where she served as its library manager since 2007. Previously, she was employed as a librarian and technical services supervisor for the Casa Grande Public Library from 2005-07.

Last week, American Leadership Academy was planning to open their new campus in Florence, across from the Florence Hospital at Anthem. They appeared shocked to learn that the State Charter School Board denied their occupancy request and students were sent scrambling to find somewhere to go to school.
According to the minutes from the July 8th State Charter School Board meeting however, Janna Day made the motion to deny the request to add a new site to the charter contract of American Leadership Academies, Inc. for the reason that the charter holder has not demonstrated the capacity to implement operational systems that comply with statutory and contractual responsibilities regarding attendance reporting at its current sites as evidenced by the information contained in this report. Further, the Board directs staff to monitor the charter holder’s attendance reporting at least through February of the 2013-2014 school year prior to consideration of expansion by this charter for a subsequent school year. The motion was seconded by Stacey Morley and passed unanimously.
The Arizona State Charter School Board voted Wednesday night to deny American Leadership Academy's newest campus located in northern Florence from opening. The message below is a response from ALA Administration:
Attention Parents and Students from the 2012 cohorts and below – AIMS retakes will take place on October 23rd, 24th, and 25th at both Coolidge High School and San Tan Foothills High School for all students who have not yet met the standards on one or more of the sections. In addition, students who have previously met but voluntarily wish to retest to see if they can excel are allowed to participate. Although the testing is primarily for present Juniors and Seniors, there are also some underclassmen included in the testing cohorts.
We have a variety of after school enrichment programs for our K-5 students.
Building Bonanza is an exciting after-school program featuring six weeks of structured play with LEGO bricks. Kids learn communication skills and teamwork and they are encouraged to “think outside the box” when solving problems and mastering building challenges. Students will have fun, take-home projects that build upon and reinforce weekly lessons utilizing the LEGO set provided for each enrolled child.
A non-traditional student pursuing four associate degrees who is veteran of 10 years of active duty in the U.S. Army, Matthew Butcher has been named Central Arizona College’s October Student of the Month.
After four decades of outstanding service to Central Arizona College, its students and the residents of Pinal County, President/CEO Dennis Jenkins will step down from his position effective Jan. 3, 2012.
“Today, I announce my retirement as president/CEO of CAC effective the end of the day on Jan. 3, 2012,” Jenkins stated. “Beginning tomorrow (Nov. 2) through Jan. 3, 2012, I will use accumulated leave.”
Jenkins said it has been a tremendous 40 years at CAC.
