The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office concluded a successful weekend of DUI enforcement as part of the Pinal County Regional DUI Task Force.

The Task Force ran from March 16th through March 18th and targeted the Eleven Mile Corner area between Coolidge and Casa Grande. Saturation patrols were deployed to identify drivers suspected of operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

A Pinal County jury on Friday, April 13, 2012 found Herman Lee Green Sr. guilty of 41 counts that included child molestation, sexual conduct with a minor, child abuse and aggravated assault against a person under the age of 15.

Green 43, of Casa Grande was convicted of crimes committed from 2000 to 2010 against his own four children. The case came to light on September 2010, when one of the children contacted police and said her father was abusing her sexually for the past nine years.

The information posted below is a response from Pinal County to PCSO's press release stating that the Pinal County Sheriff's Office has not only balanced its budget but has a surplus.

Pinal County Public Health has relocated its Vital Records program to better serve the public.  Records are now available at the two newest Pinal County Public Health Clinics in San Tan Valley and Maricopa.

The Maricopa clinic is located at 41600 West Smith-Enke Road, Building 15.  Certified copies of birth and death certificates are now available in Maricopa Tuesday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

This message is to alert members of the public regarding a theft that occurred at the Superior Municipal Airport some time between March 5th and March 8th.

An unknown number of suspects used bolt cutters to gain access inside a locked side gate on airport property and then cut a second lock to obtain a jet fuel tank belonging to a local helicopter service.

The tank was attached to a 16' black utility trailer.  The tank itself is a 600 gallon, aluminum jet fuel tank with a fixed pump, filter and hose reel.  There was approximately 375 gallons of fuel in the tank at the time of the theft.  Value of the tank and fuel contents is estimated to be around $10,000. 

Planning and development staff from Pinal County will be holding an informal meeting to seek public comment on three proposed text amendments to the Pinal County Zoning Ordinance concerning signs, commercial vehicle parking and rezoning.

The meeting is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, in the E.O.C. Room, Building F, Pinal County Florence Complex in Florence.

Dogs and cats that were once part of a massive hoarding case in Hidden Valley will be put up for adoption in a special event this Saturday.  It’s St. Patrick’s Day and the event will offer a lucky second chance for these pets.

Pet Club Maricopa, 21145 North John Wayne Parkway will host the adoption event from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 17.

A Florence man who had been reported missing has been rescued from an irrigation canal.  On 4/3/2012, PCSO deputies were called to a home located in the 15000 block of North Sweetwater Road after the home owner called to report her 34?year?old son was missing.

FLORENCE, Ariz. –  When Sylvia Shafer joined the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy in May of 1980, there were almost as many horses and cattle in Pinal County as there were people.

“It was vast, wide open spaces,” Shafer recalled, “Very agriculture.”

After working with PCSO for over a year, a job for a police officer opened up in a nearby city which she applied for and was accepted, but Shafer quickly learned bigger didn’t mean better.

“I missed the people, the rural lifestyle,” Shafer said.

The Pinal County Board of Supervisor's meeting that took place yesterday, March 14th, was packed.  Many of those in attendance were waiting anxiously to hear from Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu regarding his budget.

In January 2012, it was brought to the County's attention, that if PCSO continued to spend as it had the previous 6 months, that PCSO would have exceeded its budget by $3.2 million dollars.  PCSO was asked to make changes and present a new budget in February.  At an unrelated press conference at the beginning of February, Sheriff Babeu stated that his budget was balanced.  During the Feb 22nd BOS meeting, Sheriff Paul Babeu was not present and his budget was not presented.  An extension was granted until the March 14th Board meeting.

A man suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol was killed over the weekend after he lost control of his vehicle and was ejected as it rolled.

On May 2nd, around 1pm in Gilbert, AZ, 4 adults and 1 child were found dead in what appears to be a murder-suicide.

Initial reports are stating the J.T. Ready, a prominent member of the National Socialist Movement up until 2010, is among the dead.  Two men, two women and a toddler died in the shooting inside the home in the 500 block of West Tumbleweed Road near the intersection of Warner and Cooper roads.  One person survived the shooting, and was being treated at a medical center.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu is continuing his commitment to youth in the county by providing additional resources for a safe graduations.

On 5/29/2012, Sheriff Babeu spoke before the Coolidge City Council regarding PCSO efforts to support youth programs, including the Coolidge Youth Coalition which he presented with a $5,000 check which will be used to provide a safe and sober graduation celebration for graduating seniors.

A juvenile suspect has been arrested and charged in a string of arson cases, as well as one of the victims for growing marijuana.

On 4/12/2012, PCSO deputies responded to three separate emergencies involving active fires during the early morning hours within city limits.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu is currently under investigation by the U.S. Office of Special Counsel involving possible violations of the Hatch Act, which is the unlawful use of public resources for personal political campaigns.

An Eloy man carrying a valid Arizona medical marijuana card has been arrested for having more than six times the legal amount of medicinal pot in his possession, as well as over $10,000 in cash.

On 6/12/2012, at approximately 9:00 p.m., a PCSO deputy patrolling westbound Interstate 10 at mile marker 205 observed a grey, Hyundai Eleantra following a Jeep without maintaining a safe distance.

An officer with the Arizona Department of Corrections has been arrested and charged after multiple images of child pornography were discovered on his personal computer.

Since my appointment on Friday, May 11, 2012 to the position of County Supervisor by the Pinal County Board of Supervisors for the seven months remaining of that term, some have asked why I would leave the Apache Junction City Council for a short-term position at the county. The follow-up or implied question is whether I intend to run for the four-year position in the November election.
