Arizona Transaction Privilege Tax License Renewal Season Approaches

tpt

The Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) is gearing up for the 2024 Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT) License renewal season. Arizona businesses are advised to mark their calendars as the renewal notifications will commence in November, with the deadline set for January 1, 2024.

Renewal Forms will be dispatched exclusively to businesses that file on paper. However, e-filers can expect to receive a letter of notification. Additionally, a timely reminder will be featured prominently on the AZTaxes.gov website.

To streamline the renewal process, the ADOR recommends taxpayers register on the AZTaxes.gov website. It is mandated by state law that taxpayers operating in multiple locations renew their TPT licenses electronically. This electronic renewal option will be made accessible in November.

Businesses already registered on AZTaxes.gov should make it a priority to cross-check and update their account details. This proactive measure can avert potential fees and penalties. The portal provides flexibility to its users, allowing them to:

  • Update mailing addresses.
  • Manage (add, edit, or close) multiple locations.
  • Terminate or close an active TPT license.
  • Modify the "Doing Business As" (DBA) name.
  • Introduce new reporting jurisdictions or business codes.

Should a business cease its operations, it's essential to cancel its TPT license. For businesses with several branches, if any location discontinues its operation, it needs to be specified on the license. Licenses that aren't renewed will be auto-renewed, leading to the accrual of related fees and penalties.

Businesses must ensure their owner/office data is up-to-date. Changes can be reported using the Business Account Update Form 10193.

Furthermore, remote sellers and marketplace facilitators boasting sales exceeding $100,000 to Arizonian customers this year are required to renew their TPT licenses. While marijuana excise tax licenses are exempt from renewal, marijuana TPT licenses are bound to an annual renewal cycle.
