ADOR Provides Online Access to Form 1099-MISC and 1099-G for Arizona Taxpayers

The Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) is enhancing its online services this tax season by offering access to Form 1099-MISC and 1099-G through portal. Taxpayers can now easily search, download, and print these important tax documents by selecting "View My 1099 Form" and providing the necessary information or by clicking here.

Form 1099-MISC is used to report miscellaneous compensation and other payments, including the Arizona Families Tax Rebate received by primary taxpayers in 2023. It is important to note that the IRS considers the rebate as subject to federal income tax, requiring it to be reported as part of federal adjusted gross income. However, the rebate is exempt from Arizona income tax and should be subtracted from the federal adjusted gross income on the 2023 Arizona individual income tax return.

Form 1099-G, on the other hand, details the amount of refunds, credits, or offsets of state income tax paid by ADOR to the taxpayer in a tax year. Taxpayers should be aware that this amount may be taxable, and ADOR provides Form 1099-G information to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

A taxpayer will receive Form 1099-G if they meet the following criteria:

  1. Itemized deductions on their federal Form 1040, Schedule A, for a specific tax year.
  2. Made Arizona income tax payments for that tax year exceeding their actual tax liability. This includes scenarios where a taxpayer received a refund, applied their overpayment against their estimated tax obligation, or used the overpayment to pay another tax liability, debts owed to another state agency, or voluntary contributions on their tax return.

Both conditions must be met for a taxpayer to receive a Form 1099-G for the year in which the overpayment was refunded or applied.

Taxpayers should be aware that Form 1099-G does not include information about unemployment benefits received in the previous year. For details regarding unemployment benefits, individuals should visit the Arizona Department of Economic Security.

This new online availability of Form 1099-MISC and 1099-G marks a significant step by ADOR in facilitating a more efficient and convenient tax filing process for Arizona residents. By providing easy access to these forms, ADOR aims to streamline the tax preparation and filing experience, ensuring taxpayers have all the necessary information for accurate and timely submissions.
