I am glad to see that the town of Florence has chosen to do the right thing and rescind their annexation ordinances.
Most of the people who followed the facts of the case and examined the requirements of the law did not think Florence had any choice but to rescind the ordinances. Apparently, so did the town of Florence.

This past week Americans woke up to unbelievable scenes of military operations against American citizens. No, they really weren’t military personnel. They were local police dressed in military combat uniforms, bearing military weapons, sitting astride military vehicles aiming battlefield combat armament at unarmed Americans.
At last week’s meeting of the county Board of Supervisors, the Board was asked by Sheriff Paul Babeu to approve without discussion, an item that appeared to be a simple bookkeeping transaction to facilitate use of insurance proceeds to replace a Sheriff’s Office helicopter that crashed June 25, 2013 on an apparently routine maintenance flight.
In the past, I have been accused of being angry in some of the op ed’s I have written on various subjects. Although many of my positions have not always been supportive of the status quo, I have never been angry in stating them.
However, In watching the idiotic nonsense being perpetuated by a small group of radical tea party insurgents holding my beloved country hostage, a county that I spent 20 years of my life protecting and defending, I can say without apprehension, that Now I am angry!
Fifty years ago our nation was mesmerized by the soaring eloquence of Martin Luther King, Jr. as he challenged our nation to fulfill the promise of our country’s idealistic goals of freedom and equality under the law.
It’s fair to say that a majority of Americans responded to the challenge and helped bring about public policies rejecting the inequality of racism in its most blatant forms.
We began last month by proudly celebrating our nation’s 237th birthday. And interestingly after all these years, there are those who proclaim that we are still an experiment in self-government; a test of whether we are governed by the rule of law and not by men.
Recently my 8 year old son Xavier and I got tickets to see the San Francisco Giants take on our Arizona Dbacks at Chase Field. We were pumped.
Although the seats weren't premium, we were just happy to be there.
The adventure starts in the parking facility where the giant sandwich board reads "FIREWORKS TONIGHT". High-fives are in order and they are dealt swiftly.
$12 for parking is no problem. We have saved up a few bucks in anticipation of this evening. This is not our first BBQ, onward and upward we go, literally. Level 6 aka The Roof. We take some cool pictures of the park and downtown landscape, and then head down to roll in.
Inspiration comes in many forms. Sometimes we can inspire ourselves, but those instances are few and far between. To be specific for the sake of keeping this blog short, I'm going to get to the person who inspired me to love words and writing. Her name is Donna Smith.
Donna was my sophomore English teacher. She was really so much more than that. Donna was a woman who found something in me I never knew I had. It was potential.
As I’m watching Fast & Furious 6, I can’t help but think how cool I thought the first movie was. The rest of the franchise does not blow my skirt up as much. I can’t put my finger on what makes me enjoy a film more than others, so I decided to just write about it.
I’m Gary Nine, Superintendent of Florence Unified School District. You may be aware that one of our students was suspended on Friday, February 1, 2013, because he had a photo of an AK-47 assault rifle as wallpaper on his netbook computer, which is issued and owned by the school district. All of our students agree to abide by an Acceptable Use Policy that outlines guidelines for student use of the district-issued computers. The Acceptable Use Policy provides that such computers are for student schoolwork and prohibits certain activities.
