Free emergency preparedness seminar

On Saturday, November 6, 2010, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Paul Babeu and the National Sheriff’s Association will be co-sponsoring an All-Hazards Homeland Security Initiative Community Partnership and Awareness Training at the Coolidge/Florence Elks Lodge at 13682 N. Attaway Road.

CONSTRUCTION ALERT: San Tan Valley Subdivisions

Pinal County Public Works is alerting citizens of road construction that will be taking place over the next several months in the Copper Basin, Rancho Bella Vista and Circle Cross Ranch areas.  Public Works will begin repairing sink holes.  The worst failures will be repaired first.  The repairs will take several steps.  Crews will first remove failed material and re-compact a new aggregate base, allowing it to stand for a few weeks before paving.  Some trenches may be left open overnight so the ground can dry out.  There may also be loose gravel in the areas of construction.

With the controversy in the State of Arizona over illegal immigration -- particularly since the passage and signing into law of Senate Bill 1070 -- we have been inundated with news clips of angry people on both sides of the issue. We have also been lulled nearly to sleep by the talking heads on the evening news spouting figures about illegal immigration that have little or no meaning to us. Depending upon which television channel you watch, the numbers may even be different.

Pictsweet said Friday that 24,000 pounds of packages were distributed to Kroger stores in the southeastern U.S. and Walmart stores throughout the U.S.

ADOT to begin hearings on new link for I-10 and US60

The Arizona Department of Transportation is seeking public comment on a potential new route in Pinal County that would link Interstate 10 and US 60.

Held today in Florence will be the first of three public meetings on a North-South Corridor Study to identify and evaluate possible transportation routes.

Past studies, the last completed in 2006, indicated a need for the highway.

Employees were reporting a shoplifting had just occurred and the suspect was being detained by another shopper.

KidzLife at LifePoint Church presents its fifth annual Drive-In Movie Night at the LifePoint Church in Copper Basin on Saturday, October 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Attendees are invited to bring a cardboard box to create their very own car to sit in during the screening. Families can design their car to match their imagination by visiting the special body shop and tire store, as well as the DMV for license plates and driver's licenses.

Ariz. launches Pinal transportation corridor study

State officials are thinking about potential new transportation links in northern Pinal County in south-central Arizona.

The Department of Transportation says it will hold public meetings this month in Apache Junction, Florence, Picacho and Queen Creek regarding a study area between U.S. 60 in Apache Junction and Interstate 10 in the Picacho and Eloy area.

Former Pinal employee sentenced in ID theft scam

Albert Robbs, a former employee in the Pinal County Recorder’s Office, has been sentenced to three years in prison for assisting a criminal syndicate and two years for unlawful possession of an access device. Pinal County Superior Court Judge Boyd Johnson also ordered on Sept. 27 that the sentences should run consecutively with no credit for jail time served.
