Empower Arizona's Foster Children: Volunteer with CASA and FCRB

As Pablo Picasso aptly put, "The meaning of life is to find your gift, the purpose of life is to give it away." This holiday season, consider a different kind of gift-giving – the gift of your time – to make a lasting impact in the lives of children in Arizona's foster care system.

Advocate for a Child's Future with CASA of Arizona

CASA of Arizona (CASA) and the Foster Care Review Board (FCRB) are calling upon residents across the state to volunteer their time and become a beacon of hope for children in need. With approximately 10,000 children in foster care in Arizona, the need for dedicated advocates is significant.

The Role of a CASA Volunteer

CASA volunteers, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, are crucial in ensuring the voices of children in foster care are heard. They dedicate time to understanding each child's unique circumstances, and advocating for their needs in various settings, including courtrooms, schools, and medical appointments. With a CASA by their side, children in foster care are more likely to find stable, loving homes and succeed academically.

Co-CASA: A Team Effort

The Co-CASA initiative allows pairs, like spouses or friends, to undergo training together and jointly advocate for a foster child. Bud and Jan Dragoo, a husband-and-wife Co-CASA team, highlight how this experience has not only helped children but also strengthened their relationship by bringing different perspectives and skills to their advocacy.

Foster Care Review Board: Collective Insights for Children's Welfare

FCRB offers a collaborative volunteer opportunity, where individuals join a panel to review foster care cases. Through monthly ZOOM meetings, board members engage with caseworkers, families, and other stakeholders, providing valuable insights and recommendations for the child's best interest.

Training and Requirements for Volunteers

Volunteers for both CASA and FCRB undergo comprehensive training to effectively serve in these roles. Any community member above 21, who can pass a fingerprint background check, is eligible to apply. This opportunity does not only extend support to foster children but also enriches the volunteers' lives with purpose and connection.

Join the Arizona Supreme Court's Committees and Commissions

Apart from CASA and FCRB, the Arizona Supreme Court seeks volunteers for its various committees and commissions. This is an alternative avenue for community members to engage in meaningful service and contribute to the broader judicial system.
