Diane Douglas' motion to sever ties with Common Core passes 6-2

Repealing Common Core is something Douglas has talked about doing since she became the superintendent of public instruction.

A committee is currently reviewing math, English and literacy standards, but if Common Core is repealed new standards would then come into play.

This all comes as power struggles continue at the Arizona Department of Education.

The ongoing tension began in February when Douglas tried to fire the board's executive staff.

Douglas is facing a lawsuit after board members claim she is telling her staff to boycott board meetings. She's also accused of refusing to give investigators access to her office.

Then there's still the ongoing accusations that the board president assaulted Douglas at a recent board meeting.

Another item on Monday's agenda is discussion for renaming the executive director's title and duties so they don't conflict with Douglas' own role.
