The Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) has broadened its palette of specialty license plates, adding three new designs to its already extensive collection. Now offering over 100 varieties, these plates not only provide a unique vehicle customization option but also support various charitable causes across the state.
The new additions – Empower, In Loving Memory, and State Forty Eight – bring the total number of available specialty plates to 101, a milestone for the MVD and the Arizonan community. These plates are viewable at azdot.gov/plates and can be ordered through azmvdnow.gov/plates.
MVD Director Eric Jorgensen emphasized the dual purpose of these plates, saying, "They are not just for customizing vehicles but also serve as a platform for proud support of unique Arizona organizations. The impact these plates have on charities dedicated to improving our state and communities is significant."
Pricing and ContributionsEach specialty plate costs $25 annually, with $17 of that going directly to designated charities or nonprofit groups. In the last fiscal year, specialty plate sales generated over $12 million for various causes.
Empower Plate: Supporting Veterans and Military FamiliesThe Empower plate aids charitable organizations focused on veterans and military families. Jim Storey, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Empower Coalition, expressed his gratitude, noting the crucial funds provided by these plates to support American heroes.
In Loving Memory Plate: Aiding Grieving FamiliesThe In Loving Memory plate supports children and families coping with the loss of loved ones. Kris Friedman, Executive Director of Billy's Place, highlighted the plate's role in providing a safe community for grieving families in Arizona.
State Forty Eight Plate: Fueling EntrepreneurshipProceeds from the State Forty Eight plate benefit the State Forty Eight Foundation, which backs Arizona entrepreneurs and small business owners. Zach Hall, President of the Foundation's Board of Directors, underscored the plate's importance in supporting local businesses and startups.
A Tradition of SupportSpecialty plates have been offered by the Arizona Legislature since 1989, undergoing a rigorous review process by ADOT and law enforcement. Personalized plates are available for an additional fee of $25 per year.
