Florence Copper is pleased to announce that the 2019 'Creating Opportunities' Scholarship Program is open and accepting application packets.  Since the program was established in 2011, Florence Copper has awarded over $62,000 in scholarships to talented students in Florence to help them pursue higher education.

While the past years have been exclusive to students living in Florence, AZ, this year, Florence Copper has expanded the scholarship opportunities to include high school seniors who:

  • live Florence
  • attend high school within the Florence Unified School District
  • or attend school in Florence, Arizona

Two or more $1,000 one-time scholarships will be awarded.  The deadline to apply is May 1, 2019 and the scholarship recipients will be announced in late May.

Applicants must live or attend school in Florence, Arizona or within the Florence Unified School District.

Scholarships will be judged and awarded based on the following criteria:

  • Academic, athletic, or other achievement (community, volunteer, etc.)
  • Leadership capabilities
  • Achievements, awards and recognition at school, in the community, and/or personal activities
  • Creativity and quality of video submission

Awards will be made without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or other protected classifications.

Complete this form and video by May 1, 2019 and submit to Florence Copper.

As part of the application process,  students are being asked to record and edit a two minute video answering the question:

"Imagine a world without copper: How would American teenage life change?"

Students are being encouraged to be creative. Act a play, sing a song, recite a poem, or anything else. The more creative the video the better. No fancy equipment is necessary. Cell phone recordings are just fine. "We are looking for videos that are creative and also educate an audience about how copper has many uses in our society and is important to modern lifestyles," says Stacy Gramazio, Manager of Communications & Public Affairs.

Basic editing can be done with programs such as iMovie (for MAC users) or Windows Live Movie Maker (for PC users). Still photography options used in these programs will be accepted with sound effects (voice narrative, sounds or music added). Final submission must be in a supported YouTube file format. Any music must meet YouTube’s copyright guidelines.
