Why do most of us fail at every diet?

by: Michelle Stefl-Tufail

Why do most of us fail at every diet? Why do we spend hundreds of dollars on equipment, DVDs, supplements, and gym memberships only to fizzle out after a couple of weeks? The reason is our focus on results rather than making changes. Whether we recognize it consciously or not most of us want everything to happen right now. Sure I may have spent 10 years eating poorly and not exercising, but I just spent $600 on a treadmill and I want to get in shape NOW!  Don’t worry you are not alone. I think we are all guilty of this until we recognize the issue and move forward.

The key to achieving your goals is to remain focused on making the changes needed to reach your goal and being consistent with those changes. Making real changes will force you to stray from all the gimmicks that are out there preying on those of us looking for the quick fix. Anything that seems too good to be true usually is. For an average person without any known illnesses or injuries who begins a fitness regime and incorporates healthy food and drink habits it is normal to lose about a pound per week. This will vary from person to person based each of our own genetics and overall health history. The key is to not obsess over the scale and how many ounces you lost since you had breakfast but rather to focus on making every day a healthy one giving your body a chance to heal and transform. This takes time, but it’s worth it.

Making these changes permanent will be necessary in order to transform and maintain your health for your lifetime. Thinking that you’ll work hard and lose 20 pounds then go back your old habits is only going to set you up for frustration and failure. Focusing on living a healthy active life each and every day will set you up for success.

Finding a good support system is helpful when you are getting started. Not everyone will be happy when you decide to throw away all the junk food in the kitchen and replace it with healthy whole foods. Having a good support system will help keep you strong and focused during the initial transition. Remember it’s a process and it takes time. Every day you eat healthy and exercise is a small success that will add up to big changes down the road.

Hi, I’m Michelle Stefl-Tufail wife of Asad and a mom to 5 amazing kids 2 dogs and a cat. I’ve been a massage therapist since 2010 and specialize in Swedish, Deep Tissue, and Sports Massage. I’m also a Reiki Master and love being able to incorporate energy work into my career.

Before I discovered massage therapy I worked in the mortgage and real estate industry. This was stressful and I put on an extra 70 lbs between working and having children and not knowing much about health and wellness.

My “ah-ha” moment came in 2006 when I was hospitalized for pneumonia and viral meningitis all within a few months. I was getting sicker and sicker and felt like staying in bed or on the couch all the time. With four very young little boys to take care of it was a nightmare.

I really didn’t know if I could ever get myself out of that horrible rut…

Fast forward a few years and not only did I get out of that rut, I became a new woman! Transformations are possible when you work through your mind body and soul to carve out the person you want to be.
