‘Day Of The Cowboy’ Celebration Set For Oct. 13-14 Featured

The sixth annual Gold Canyon Day of the Cowboy Celebration will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, and Sunday, Oct. 14, in Gold Canyon.

Cowboys and cowgirls of all ages are encouraged to join in the festivities honoring the contributions the American cowboy has made to this region’s rich Western culture.

Attendees are encouraged to don their most comfortable western wear and come out to join in the revelry. The weekend will include a golf tournament, family fun and fireworks. Most of the activities are free.

 

Saturday, Oct. 13, the celebration will kick off with a charity golf tournament at Gold Canyon Golf Resort,6100 S. Kings Ranch Road, in Gold Canyon, benefiting Peralta Trail Elementary School.

The day’s activities will proceed with a Western Market Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Red Tomato, 6010 S. Kings Ranch Road, (the old Don Donnelly Stables).

The Gold Canyon town hall, 6100 S. Kings Ranch Road, will be transformed into an Old West Bingo Parlor from 3:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. by the Gold Canyon Soroptimists.

Family-friendly activities will be hosted by Gold Canyon Golf Resort and will commence at 4 p.m.

The Mojave Muleskinners, (an authentic Old West reenactment group) will mingle with the crowd as they stroll through the booths of local artisans and community groups. They will perform throughout the afternoon and evening as country western music fills the canyon, primarily provided by the Tommy Ash Band.

Peralta Trail Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will offer hot air balloon rides, face painting, and a reptile petting zoo and games for all to enjoy. A golf ball drop fundraiser will benefit its 501(c) 3 charity.

A western barbecue buffetstyle dinner at the resort’s Kokopelli’s Restaurant and the open air patio, The Ledge, is being offered. Reservations are encouraged, call (480) 671-5517. The snack shop will also offer more casual grub. All are advised to bring lawn chairs and or blankets to enjoy an outstanding fireworks display as the explosions reverberate throughout the canyon beginning at 8 p.m.

The fireworks are the pinnacle event of the day and are made possible by sponsorships from Gold Canyon Golf Resort, SRP, Golden Eagle Distributors, Curis Resources Arizona Inc./Florence Copper, Shamrock Foods, Sysco Foods, Wells Fargo Bank, Right Away Disposal, MountainBrook Village, Rossmar & Graham, Mountain Vista Medical Center, Brown & Brown Insurance, Gold Canyon Business Association (GCBA), Mediacom Business, Edward Jones-Darnell Grossi,  Edward Jones-Matt Ruppert, Lori Blank & Associates, Robert Horne Ford, Liberty Utilities and Resolution Copper Mining. Apache Junction Fire District and Pinal County will provide assistance as required.

Additional parking will be available courtesy of Gold Canyon United Methodist Church, 6640 S. Kings Ranch Road. Free shuttle service will be provided from the church parking lot to the resort from 5 to 10 p.m.
