Campfires, bonfires and fire pits are a central part of fellowship at campsites.  Unfortunately due to the extreme fire risk from repeated years of drought, they are currently banned in unincorporated areas of Pinal County.

“In the past, several Arizona counties have experienced significant forest fires that have stretched not only Arizona’s local emergency responders to the limit but also required significant state and federal resources to respond to the emergency,” said Pinal County Emergency Manager Lou Miranda.

Cheerleader “Hit List” Investigation

On Wednesday, March 6th, 2013 at 6 a.m. the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Florence Unified School District regarding a “hit list” which was discovered on the internet and reported to them by a parent of one of the students on the list.

The list was created by two female students; an 8th grade student at Walker Butte K-8 and a 10th grade student at Poston Butte High School, and placed on the social media site Instagram. Also on the media site was an icon of a pistol next to the word “hit list.”

The story of a former Monson, Maine resident, Stacey M. Kananen, is featured on a new Investigation Discovery series, Catch My Killer, slated to air on March 3, 2013. She was found not guilty in Orlando, Florida, on March 12, 2010, of her mother’s murder. Kananen’s story — Fear of our Father-The True Story of Abuse, Murder and Family Ties — will be published by Berkley Books in June 2013. Fear of Our Father is co-authored by ocal San Tan Valley resident, Lisa Bonnice, an award-winning writer/producer for MSNBC.com.

Kananen was also featured in an Emmy-nominated BBC documentary, America’s Child Death Shame, by reporter Natalia Antelava.

San Tan Valley Head Start Program

The San Tan Valley Preschool Head Start and Early Head Start programs are now accepting applications. Preschool Head Start is a center based program for 4 year olds. Priority is given to low income families, homeless families, and families with children that have a disability. This is a kindergarten readiness program that provides health and family services.

Heroes Run for Dakota

 

The Pinal County Sheriffs Office is hosting a Heroes Run for Dakota, 5K race, in San Tan Valley to help 8 year old Dakota and her family. The Pinal County Sheriffs Office, Rural Metro Fire, Southwest Ambulance and Banner Ironwood Medical Center invite you and your family to be a part of this wonderful opportunity to run/walk for a great cause.

Convicted in 1997 of Sex with a minor in California.

Convicted in 2007 of lewd and lasvi acts with a child in California.  His victims were young girls known to him.

The San Tan Valley Chamber of Commerce was honored to help welcome Congressman Paul Gosar and his staff, to San Tan Valley during the Grand Opening of his San Tan Valley office.

Members of the community had been invited to attend the event, which ran from 10am-11:30am, Thursday, Feb 21, 2013.  Those that attended were able to take a tour of the office and meet with the Congressman and his staff.
