Traffic switch to take place on Loop 202

This weekend, Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) in Mesa will be closed between Power and Elliot roads so crews can install temporary concrete barrier, restripe and make final preparations for detouring westbound traffic onto the eastbound lanes of Loop 202 between Warner and Hawes roads. Drivers should be aware of the following restrictions:

  • Eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) closed between Power and Elliot roads from 11 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 29). DETOUR: Exit Power Road northbound to eastbound Elliot Road to access Loop 202.
  • Westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) closed between Elliot and Power roads from 10 p.m. Saturday to 5 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 30). DETOUR: Exit Elliot road westbound to southbound Power Road to access Loop 202.

The traffic switch will allow for crews to continue constructing the ramps and bridges that will connect Loop 202 to the new one-mile stretch of State Route 24 (Gateway Freeway) currently under construction. This traffic switch is the first phase of ramp and bridge construction. In phase two, eastbound traffic will be detoured onto the westbound lanes of Loop 202 in Mesa. These detours will be in place until late summer 2013.
