Clear Out Old Fridge, Collect $50 and Save Year-Round

What:

In the Valley of the Sun, it’s a common sight: a worn-out, old refrigerator or freezer chugging away in the heat of summer on a back patio or in an overheated garage. To make matters worse, the appliance is often half empty, which makes it work even harder and wastes more energy.

Salt River Project (SRP) once again hopes to help customers save money on their energy bills. People who idly operate a second fridge spend up to $100 more in energy costs each year. 

When:

SRP will pick up and recycle old, working fridges and freezers at the customer’s convenience— free of charge — and mail customers a $50 check.

Why:

Ninety-five percent of every donated appliance is recycled — from the foam insulation to the refrigerants. This prevents about 10 tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere — which is equal to taking two cars off the road for a year.

How:

SRP’s Appliance Recycling Program is a partner in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Responsible Appliance Disposal Program.
