Someone who prefers to fight for you, not against you...

I live in a beautiful community known as San Tan Valley.   I believe our elected officials should be held accountable & I have a history of calling them out when needed.  I am a "glass is half full" kind of girl and I love it.  I was honored to receive the 2009 San Tan Area Volunteer of the Year award and just recently was awarded the ACE Jack Camper Scholarship to attend Winter Institute, sponsored by the US Chamber of Commerce.

My husband and I own an IT company, MyBizNow.com, which provides a wide range of products and services to business of all sizes.  We provide graphic design, website development/design, hosting, ecommerce, printing, computer repair and maintenance and more.  We were the 2009 San Tan Area Business of the Year and are proud members of San Tan Leads, ASBA, HREP and the San Tan Valley Chamber. Check out our website for more information.

I was a board member of the San Tan Valley Chamber of Commerce from 2007-2009 and have been the President/CEO of the San Tan Valley Chamber of Commerce since 2010.  We have made amazing progress for both our community and our chamber this past year and surpassed our goals for 2011 and 2012.  Definitely looking forward to what the future will bring.

Some other organizations I am or have been proudly affiliated with:

  • One of the founding CORE members of GSTAC, the Greater San Tan Area Coalition, an organization that was created to bring our area together with one voice so that this community could become proactive with its future.
  • Block Watch Coordinator for the Johnson Ranch Community and also one of the founding members of the Greater San Tan Area Community Block Watch Association.
  • Co-chair for the Tech 4 Kids committee in 2008, the committee pushed to get the override passed to allow FUSD #1 to bring tech into our schools. As a result, the first high school in 94 years to be built in the Florence Unified School District, is a 100% tech school, the first in the state of Arizona!
  • Founded the first Special Olympics group in the San Tan Area, known as the San Tan Bumblebees! Go Bumblebees!
  • Through MyBizNow Gives Back, we were able to donate over $11,000 in cash and gift cards to the athletic and art departments at Poston Butte High School, exceeding our goal of $10,000, through the KIDS FIRST golf tournament and community event which was held Saturday, September 12th, 2009.
  • In 2010, my husband and I created this website - SanTanValley.com, which has become the #1 most visited website in San Tan Valley, AZ - thanks to all of you. It is a FREE resource for anyone interested in learning more about San Tan Valley. It includes news, events, classifieds, homes, pets, businesses and more. Check it out when you can and be sure to like our facebook page.
  • Founding member of the San Tan Valley Substance Abuse Coalition, an organization whose mission is to provide recovery, education, and prevention resources to those affected by substance abuse and, or mental health disorders.

Although I am very active in our community, please know that when I post here, I will be posting as me, Tisha Castillo.  My posts will not represent any of the organizations that I proudly am a part of, but simply my views as a resident of the area.  I hope you enjoy what I share and that you'll come back often and share your thoughts.

Man of Steel

I am not the type of person to "judge a book by its cover" or a movie by its trailer, but I have to say, I am getting pretty worried about the upcoming Man of Steel movie.  My husband has been anxiously awaiting this new release for what seems like forever, and now that we are less than 2 weeks away, the excitement is starting to radiate throughout the house.

To help get everyone on the same page, we decided to sit together and watch the over 13 minute "featurette" of Man of Steel on TV together.  As my husband's excitement continued to grow, I felt my excitement fading away "faster than a speeding bullet."

Let's Ban Cars Too!

Good morning everyone!  Today is the last Friday of 2012.  I've been sick with a head cold since Tuesday night and have been on and off the net for the last few days.  As I got up online this morning, I was flooded with certain images that I just couldn't sit and be quiet about any more.  So, I am writing today's post as more of a sarcastic piece in response to a photo.  Now before I start on this conversation I have to remind you that I have been "deprived of oxygen" and have become a little "sensitive". Normally I wouldn't "pick" on anyone but I have seen my last ridiculous post on facebook that I cannot keep quiet about. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STOP posting the ridiculous picture of how many deaths have occurred by way of vehicle accidents and comparing it to gun violence and sarcastically stating that we should "ban" cars too! Do you really think that comparison is apples to apples? If you want to go down that road then let's even the playing field all around shall we?

This week has been an incredibly busy week!  Funny how many people thought "campaigning" was what kept me so busy!

NEVER EVER FORGET

I remember waking up and starting my day as if this day would be no different than the rest.  I had gotten up early while the rest of my family was still asleep, and started getting ready for work.  The TV was off and I was enjoying the piece and quiet.  Before long, my husband woke up and started his normal routine as well, again not thinking this day would be any different than any other.

The last few days have been a whirlwind of activity! From ribbon cuttings, to notMYkid presentations, to "Meet the Teacher" Night, to participating in the Legislative Summit in Prescott and now preparing for the 2012 BizNess Expo taking place today at Poston Butte from 8am-3pm - my days are blending together but oh my!  I can't tell you how much has been accomplished over the last few days!  Funny part about all of this, is that NOTHING that I've done over the last few days has popped into my schedule because I'm now running for office.  It's what I'd be doing anyway as someone who has been an active leader in this community for years.

Truth in Politics

Election season brings the ugliest of attacks into every community.  Negative campaigning has hit its all time low and we all hear more from one candidate against his/her opponent than we hear from the candidate about what he/she will try and do for our area, our state or our country.

Hats off to the Honorable Chad Roche

Wow!  That is all I can think of saying after attending the Communications Fair, put on by the Clerk of the Superior Court (COSC) today.

I had been following some basic information on the new Lean Six Sigma (LSS) program that was being integrated into the COSC, but nothing could prepare me for what I saw today.

Dylan Dee Brown

He was a rambunctious 2 year old whose height may have led you to believe that he was younger than two.  Never afraid of anything and always looking for fun, he was the daredevil of the family.

On Sunday afternoon, a summer monsoon was coming through San Tan Valley. The streets were flooding and many were coming outside of their homes to play in the streets and enjoy what mother nature had given us. Dylan Dee Brown was outside in the front yard with his family; his mom and dad and his brother Charlie and sister Hannah.  The whole neighborhood was out playing along.  Both of Dylan's parents, Stephanie and CJ, were overly cautious at all times with the kids and as the water in the front started to pick up, they decided to take the kids into the backyard, for safety.

According to Arizona Revised Statutes, it is a class 2 misdemeanor for anyone other than a candidate or a private property owner to "remove, alter, deface, or cover" any political or candidate signs forty-five days before a primary election and seven days after a general election.
