The endorsements were released in an open letter signed by a bipartisan group of former state and federal prosecutors. Among the endorsers are Republicans A. Melvin McDonald, the former U.S. Attorney for Arizona, and Rick Romley, who formerly served as the Maricopa County Attorney, as well as former Democratic Attorney General Terry Goddard.
The law enforcement leaders noted that during Walsh’s first term, he has increased the number of prosecutions, reduced crime in Pinal County and protected the rights of its people.
The county attorney is the chief prosecuting agency in the state, it requires the leadership and experience that few attorneys achieve during their entire careers. To be the Pinal County Attorney takes a genuine respect for the police, other prosecuting agencies, and the courts. The county attorney must show integrity and independence, he must not only have the courage to aggressively prosecute those who break the law, but also have the moral strength to rise above politics and decline prosecutions against those whose guilt cannot be established.
