Successful communities are built upon vital foundations such as quality education and health. As Chief Executive Officer of Banner Ironwood Medical Center, I recognize the need for the availability of resources and programs that promote a culture of wellness for every individual in our community.
We must support our students by ensuring they are provided with comprehensive academic programs, including fine arts and athletics. These programs have a major positive impact in fostering character-building in students, and are especially important during the current challenges our society faces from economic disadvantages.
There is also a crucial need to recruit highly qualified staff, and to retain them with a competitive salary. Also key to success is the ability to maintain governing board-approved class size and procure support staff. Continuing comprehensive counseling programs for our youth strengthens their ability to deal with issues they face both at home and at school, allowing them to develop and mature in a timely and productive manner.
Failing to renew the budget override would be a significant blow to this growing community, with effects that would be felt both in the short term and for many years to come. I support this override.
