Jeff was a resident of Pinal County but he disappeared in Gila County after speaking with his father in Phoenix on a cell phone. His family, friends and a large number of people worked feverishly to find him. Volunteers of the Superstition Search and Rescue team, Tom and Sharon Kollenborn, Marta St. James’ dog group and people who didn’t even know Jeff, came together to help.
In fact, just about everybody but the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office was helping.
Jeff’s brother, Dan, posted on the family website last week that PCSO warned him about “committing a misdemeanor punishable by law” for bothering the sheriff’s office and asking for information and help with his brother’s disappearance.
Dan, who lives in California and may not be aware that the sheriff is involved in an important re-election campaign, wrote back to PCSO, “I think arresting me for this would actually help our cause, so come and get me, guys. If you can find me.”
Jeff would have laughed.
