Must ‘Write-In’ For Constable Aug. 28

by: Shon White, San Tan Vally - “Write-In” Candidate For Constable

Former Constable Jack McClaren resigned from his constable position to run for sheriff. He resigned on the last day to turn in signatures to have a name put on the ballot. That means all candidates running for constable for the Apache Junction Justice Court are running as “Write-In.”

Some candidates for constable have missed this on their signs and in their literature and use terms like “Elect.”

With no names on the ballot for constable, it is important for voters to have a name in mind when they go to the polls or when they fill out their early ballots if they want to have a voice in deciding who they want their next constable to be. That name must be written in on the ballot and (very important) the oval next to the write-in name must be filled in so the ballot reader (computer) picks up on the “write-in.”

Since I am running as a “write-in” for constable, I wanted to pass this information along to the voters as I am sure many are not familiar with the “write-in” process. It will be a new experience for me as well.
