There should be no room in law enforcement for partisanship. People of every political persuasion deserve unbiased enforcement of the law. Prosecutors need to maintain a professional relationship with law enforcement, and any decision on whether to prosecute should not be tainted by political considerations.
It is always unfortunate when an elected sheriff decides to form political alliances with an elected prosecutor, especially when there are matters under scrutiny that may raise questions about official conduct. For this reason I would urge all elected law enforcement officials to offer their own credentials to voters, and remain as independent as possible from other ballot-box alliances.
