Dec. At Museum
Cooking class is Dec. 1 along with concert, Christmas boutique
Prickly pear cactus and mesquite beans don’t look all that appetizing when viewed in their desert setting, but participants in a class conducted by author Jean Groen on Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Superstition Mountain Museum will learn how to use them to whip up delicious Prickly Pear Margaritas and Salsa Jam.
Both are award-winning recipes — the Prickly Pear Margarita won first place for Groen in the Scottsdale Culinary Festival and the Salsa Jam with Nopalitos earned her a first place in a recent Better Homes and Gardens magazine competition.

San Tan Valley Chamber of Commerce Kicks Off Third Annual Small Business Saturday
The day after Black Friday is Small Business Saturday, a day to support the local businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve neighborhoods around the country. Small Business Saturday, which falls on November 24th this year, was created in 2010 by American Express in response to small business owners’ most pressing need: creating more demand for their products and services.
In 2011, Small Business Saturday gave a boost to Main Street merchants and spurred millions of Americans to shop at independently-owned small businesses, including President Obama, who took his daughters on a shopping trip to an independent bookstore a few blocks from the White House.

Jazz Night at the Pence Center Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m.

San Tan Valley Area to Benefit from Road Improvement Project
Residents in the San Tan Valley area will soon see county-contracted crews working to improve a section of Bella Vista Road. A ‘scrub seal’ treatment is slated to be applied beginning Monday November 5, 2012, on Bella Vista Road from Hunt Highway to Gantzel Road.
This is the first of a two-step pavement preservation project and includes a combined total of 22,000 square yards of material used on a 2.68 miles section of Bella Vista Road. Application of a slurry seal will follow next year after the scrub seal is fully cured. Cactus Asphalt will be performing the work under a contract with Pinal County.
