2 year old Child Locked in Unattended SUV at Fry's in San Tan Valley
A woman left her 2 year old child locked inside an unattended SUV at Fry’s Food Store parking lot near Gantzel and Combs roas while she went shopping.
No windows down, car was not running. Little girl had a drink, but - based on surveillance video - was left inside vehicle for 1.5 hrs.
The mother told deputies she thought she was inside for only 20 to 30 minutes, Johnson said.
Deputies were forced to break rear passenger window around 5:45pm to rescue the child who had freed herself from a child safety seat.
Child's color was flush red - heavy sweating and crying, which got the attention of a shopper near the vehicle - and called 911.
After they freed the girl they ran inside the store to cool her down.
When the mother came out of the store and found out what happened, she reportedly almost fainted.
According to Johnson, the mother said she went into the store and didn’t realize that the girl’s father had put her in the back of the vehicle.
The girl was alert conscious and breathing when taken by ground to Banner Ironwood hospital.
Her current condition is unknown at this time.
CPS and PCSO will continue investigation and work with County Attorney who will ultimately decide if charges are necessary.
