On Thursday night, Pinal County Deputy Robert Steele, 29, slammed into a pickup truck that was making an illegal U-turn U.S. 60, just outside of Gold Canyon. The truck driver was killed on scene and the deputy was in serious condition.
The patrol deputy was travelling west on U.S. 60 and struck the side of a pickup truck making an illegal U-turn on U.S. 60 near Gold Canyon, leaving the truck driver dead and the deputy with serious injuries, authorities said.
A third car driven by a woman 8 months pregnant tried to avoid the crash but ended up sideswiping the deputy's car.
The deputy suffered serious injuries from the crashes and was taken to the Scottsdale Osborn Hospital and the woman was taken to a hospital and later released. Deputy Steele has been upgraded to stable condition (as of Saturday) and is expected to recover.
Department of Public Safety, stated the deputy was not at fault.
