Both San Tan Valley Donation Jar Thieves Arrested

by: Elias Johnson - PCSO

Two men responsible for stealing donation jars intended for a 7‐year‐old cancer patient from two separate San Tan Valley Walgreens have been identified.

On 7/22/2012 surveillance video from the Walgreens located at 3111 W Hunt Highway showed Peter Cardinale, 21, of Chandler, walk into the store and leave moments later after taking a donation jar left at the front register.

The donation jar was placed in the store by the 7‐year‐oldʹs parents who used the money to cover food expenses.  Her picture and purpose for the funds were clearly marked on the containers.

On 8/9/2012 surveillance video from the Walgreens located at 333 E Hunt Highway showed Anthony Stuber, 21, of San Tan Valley, walk into the store and leave moments later after taking a donation jar left at the front register.

Stuber was seen running to a silver sedan that had been waiting for him outside.

Stuber was also identified as the same suspect responsible for stealing beer with an accomplice on 8/6/2012 from the Walgreens located at 3111 W Hunt Highway.

PCSO patrol deputies and detectives were able to identify both suspects using leads in the case reported by area citizens.

Stuber was arrested on 8/21/2012 and charged with Shoplifting. During questioning, he admitted to taking the donation jar.

Anthony Stuber’s booking photo from arrest on 8/21/2012 An arrest warrant has been issued for Cardinale, who was recently in PCSO custody after being arrested during a traffic stop on 8/3/2012 on a warrant out of Maricopa County. He faces Shoplifting charges as well.

“What kind of person steals cash intended for a 7‐year‐ old girl with cancer?” Sheriff Paul Babeu said. “This is a new low, even for criminals. I would like to sincerely thank members of the public who helped identify these suspects; now the accused shall meet justice.”
