Digital Recording System - LIBERTY - Comes to Pinal County Superior Court

by: Lynn Hurley

State of the art digital recording and playback has come to the Superior Court in Pinal County with the successful installation of the Liberty system. This cutting edge all-inclusive solution for archiving, annotation, recording and playback is completely digital. The Liberty system went live Thursday, July 21 without any major difficulties.

Chad A. Roche, Clerk of the Superior Court, spearheaded the equipment upgrade as part of his overall commitment to modernization within the Office of the Clerk. “What the Liberty system means to the public is that court recordings are now handled in the most secure way possible using current available technology.”

An all digital system allows court proceedings to be recorded directly to a hard drive.  The destination hard drive can be located either on a local PC or on a central server elsewhere in the network. Once the recording is complete, the file can be saved as a PDF file along with the associated notes, cue points and media (both audio and video). In PDF format, the recording may be transcribed or moved to any other PC-compatible storage device.

Having a reliable and durable system in place like Liberty brings a new level of communication to the Courts. When complex concepts, or difficult case materials are presented, the segment can be replayed for clarity and understanding. Liberty has entirely replaced the outdated FTR system in the Superior Court in Pinal County and is now the only supported system. This much-needed upgrade was a planned-for and budget-approved item.
