Customers targeted by scam artists asking for credit card information
SRP customers are being warned of a telephone scam in which someone is using an invalid SRP telephone number and asking for credit card or banking information.
These imposters, according to Michael Lowe, manager of Customer Services, appear to be using a phone number, (602) 236-7290, that can be displayed on caller ID as Salt River Project and are likely attempting to use any information they receive to make illegal purchases. He added that when attempting to call this phone number back, callers receive a message that the number is not in service.
"SRP customer service representatives do not call our customers and ask for credit card numbers," said Lowe.
To avoid becoming a victim of these scams, Lowe urges SRP customers to:
- Not give your credit or debit card number or other personal information to any caller or visitor without knowing their true identity.
- Call SRP at (602) 236-8888 for accurate information about their electric account, program information or to confirm SRP employee identification.
- Contact local law enforcement if they are a victim of this fraudulent activity or receive a similar call from a scam artist.
