Golf Tournament Coming July 21st

by: SanTanValley.com

One day, Chad Brown told a friend of his, Chuck Blume, that they should buy some knickers and golf on Sunday mornings.

Blume, who had never golfed before moving to Arizona, gave Brown a hundred bucks and told him that if he found out where to buy the knickers that he would wear them out on the course.

Needless to say, Brown found the knickers, and Brown and Blume started playing on Sundays, in knickers.  For the next few months, there were 4-6 players that joined them on the course.  Now four years later, you can find 20-25 men and women wearing knickers on Sunday mornings at The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch with 35-40 playing during the winter months.

Even though this group is the fastest growing "knickers group" in the country, they are still looking for members to join their group and encourage all men and women to come on out and play.  Promising that this group is anything but competitive, it is guaranteed to be a great time for all, regardless of skill level.

Recently the group, now known as the San Tan Valley Knicker Brigade, has formed a non-profit organization and this year, has adopted the athletic department at the Poston Butte High School as their benefactor.

"With the new "Pay to Play" rules, it is getting so expensive to pay for sports, lots of kids can't afford it," Blume said. "We decided to put on our first golf tournament and donate the funds to Poston Butte."

The Golf Tournament is taking place Saturday, July 21st at The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch with registration starting at 7:30am and a shotgun start at 8:30am.  The tournament is a 4-person Scramble and you pick your own team.  The cost is $50 per players which includes 18 holes, cart and food.  $25 of the registration fee goes directly to the PBHS Athletics Department.

The group is currently looking for a few remaining players but is focusing most of their energy on recruiting sponsors for the event as well as raffle prize donations.  Sponsorship packages range from $50 to the title sponsorship of $3,000 and raffle prize donations are a great way for businesses to get some extra exposure during the event.  For more information on the tournament, sponsorships or the raffle, please contact Mike Cox at 480-516-4507 or Richard Garza at 480-294-1036.  (To register for the tournament, scroll down and download the registration form.)
