7 Central Arizona College employees graduate from the Hispanic Leadership Institute

Seven Central Arizona College employees who embarked on a 10-week journey to further their education and enhance their understanding through the Hispanic Leadership Institute have successfully graduated from the program.

Graduates from the Hispanic Leadership Institute- Pinal include:

  • Cristina Del Cid, Early Childhood Education Department
  • Benny DeSantiago, Coordinator of Community Outreach
  • Stella L. Garcia, Office of Public Relations
  • Adela Gasca, Registrar’s Office
  • Elisa Juarez, Director of Financial Aid
  • Muriel Thomas, Coordinator, Lifelong Learning

The Hispanic Leadership Institute-Pinal (HLI-Pinal) promotes the development of individuals for increased participation in leadership roles and serves as a principal education and networking resource for expertise and advocacy on leadership issues affecting the Latino community.

The Hispanic Leadership Institute-Pinal was established and designed to educate and assist individuals in developing and expanding their leadership skills to take an active role in the community.

The Hispanic Leadership Institute-Pinal is a 10-week program of weekly classes conducted in the evening primarily at Central Arizona College as well as in the communities of Eloy, Florence, Coolidge, and Casa Grande. HLI-Pinal participants receive college credits through Central Arizona College.

HLI-Pinal offers participants the opportunity to engage Arizona’s foremost business and policy authorities in a continuing dialogue about leadership and our Latino communities.

The Hispanic Leadership Institute-Pinal enhances participant’s understanding of the role culture plays in a variety of circumstances, with specific attention to the enduring influence of Latinos in Arizona and the distinctiveness of Pinal County.

The curriculum builds from participants’ experiences, emphasizing personal and professional development with a practical orientation. Sessions focus on ethics, cultural and personal identity, community issues, public/media relations skills, board/commission service, and meetings and protocol among other topics.

HLI-Pinal was founded in 2005 as a partnership between Valle del Sol, the Latino Familia Initiative and Central Arizona College.

Participation in HLI-Pinal is a competitive application process and is open for all individuals of diverse backgrounds.

The next session for HLI-Pinal begins on Feb. 7, 2013. The deadline to submit applications is Nov. 30, 2012.
