What Have the Candidates Done For This Area Before They Decided to Run for Office?

by: Tisha Castillo

The last few days have been a whirlwind of activity! From ribbon cuttings, to notMYkid presentations, to "Meet the Teacher" Night, to participating in the Legislative Summit in Prescott and now preparing for the 2012 BizNess Expo taking place today at Poston Butte from 8am-3pm - my days are blending together but oh my!  I can't tell you how much has been accomplished over the last few days!  Funny part about all of this, is that NOTHING that I've done over the last few days has popped into my schedule because I'm now running for office.  It's what I'd be doing anyway as someone who has been an active leader in this community for years.

For many of you, election season brings up desires to run and flee!  With so many candidates running for so few offices, it can be overwhelming to try and sift through the propaganda pieces and speeches that you hear.  Why are so many of them "paired up with others"?  Why is co-mingling of funds acceptable?  What will happen to the checks and balances if all of these "deals" have been made before the primary?  Who really has YOUR best interests at heart?

I am going to offer you a suggestion to help eliminate some of the confusion .... WHAT HAVE THE CANDIDATES DONE FOR THIS AREA BEFORE THEY DECIDED TO RUN FOR OFFICE?

Actions have always spoken louder than words and election season is no different. Ask the candidates to SHOW YOU what they have done for this area over the last 2-5 years.

Don't be swayed by the fancy marketing pieces that your mailboxes are being overfilled with.  What do those pieces really show you?  A fiscally conservative approach to marketing?  NO!  It shows you that certain candidates believe that throwing money at something will solve the problem or distract you enough to ignore it.  It shows you that certain candidates believe that throwing fancy marketing filled with key buzzwords is all you, the voter, needs to make a decision.  I believe you want more than that.

If you have questions, pick up the phone and call me - 602-348-0238; look through my website and read about what I have done over the last 6+ years for this area (and all as a volunteer), contact me here, message me on facebook, stop me when you see me out in the community.  I want to speak to you.  I want to earn your vote.  I want to answer your questions and I want to be your District 2 Supervisor.

I am not a politician - I am a candidate for an elected office and I ask for your vote.

Together we will win this election and I will be honored to represent YOU as your new District 2 Supervisor.

Someone who prefers to fight for you, not against you...

I live in a beautiful community known as San Tan Valley.   I believe our elected officials should be held accountable & I have a history of calling them out when needed.  I am a "glass is half full" kind of girl and I love it.  I was honored to receive the 2009 San Tan Area Volunteer of the Year award and just recently was awarded the ACE Jack Camper Scholarship to attend Winter Institute, sponsored by the US Chamber of Commerce.

My husband and I own an IT company, MyBizNow.com, which provides a wide range of products and services to business of all sizes.  We provide graphic design, website development/design, hosting, ecommerce, printing, computer repair and maintenance and more.  We were the 2009 San Tan Area Business of the Year and are proud members of San Tan Leads, ASBA, HREP and the San Tan Valley Chamber. Check out our website for more information.

I was a board member of the San Tan Valley Chamber of Commerce from 2007-2009 and have been the President/CEO of the San Tan Valley Chamber of Commerce since 2010.  We have made amazing progress for both our community and our chamber this past year and surpassed our goals for 2011.  Definitely looking forward to what 2012 will bring.

Some other organizations I am or have been proudly affiliated with:

  • One of the founding CORE members of GSTAC, the Greater San Tan Area Coalition, an organization that was created to bring our area together with one voice so that this community could become proactive with its future.
  • Block Watch Coordinator for the Johnson Ranch Community and also one of the founding members of the Greater San Tan Area Community Block Watch Association.
  • Co-chair for the Tech 4 Kids committee in 2008, the committee pushed to get the override passed to allow FUSD #1 to bring tech into our schools. As a result, the first high school in 94 years to be built in the Florence Unified School District, is a 100% tech school, the first in the state of Arizona!
  • Founded the first Special Olympics group in the San Tan Area, known as the San Tan Bumblebees! Go Bumblebees!
  • Through MyBizNow Gives Back, we were able to donate over $11,000 in cash and gift cards to the athletic and art departments at Poston Butte High School, exceeding our goal of $10,000, through the KIDS FIRST golf tournament and community event which was held Saturday, September 12th, 2009.
  • In 2010, my husband and I created this website - SanTanValley.com, which has become the #1 most visited website in San Tan Valley, AZ - thanks to all of you. It is a FREE resource for anyone interested in learning more about San Tan Valley. It includes news, events, classifieds, homes, pets, businesses and more. Check it out when you can and be sure to like our facebook page.

Although I am very active in our community, please know that when I post here, I will be posting as me, Tisha Castillo.  My posts will not represent any of the organizations that I proudly am a part of, but simply my views as a resident of the area.  I hope you enjoy what I share and that you'll come back often and share your thoughts.
