Local Companies Needed To Fight Cancer

American Cancer Society Relay For Life Seeks Local Sponsors

The American Cancer Society urges local companies to help support the fight against cancer in their communities by becoming sponsors of Relay For Life®. Cancer touches everyone, and involvement in Relay For Life is a great way for companies to demonstrate their commitment to help the American Cancer Society save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Many options for corporate sponsorship are available, including forming a team at one or more local events; providing in-kind donations of goods; purchasing event sponsor signs for track display; encouraging employees to volunteer at events; and collecting Relay donations at places of business.

Walkers will go around the clock in the battle against cancer when the second American Cancer Society Relay For Life® of San Tan Valley gets underway with teams of residents gathering at Poston Butte High School on April 12th at 6pm.

Relay For Life events are held overnight as individuals and teams camp out at an athletic track, park or other gathering area, with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track or pathway at all times throughout the evening. Teams do most of their fundraising prior to the event, but some teams also hold creative fundraisers at their camp sites during Relay.

Relay for Life is supposed to mimic the journey of a cancer patient.  Starting at 6pm and running through the night until 6am the following morning, we are reminded that cancer never sleeps.  As someone who had never participated in a Relay for Life before, I wasn't sure what to expect.  You go to the committee meetings, training, etc and you hear about how "amazing" this event really is.   You hear that total strangers bond together and form a special trust.  You hear that it will move you as you participate in each of the steps along the way.  You hear about those people that share their stories and you remember the people in your life that you are "relaying for".  I had never really thought about why I decided to make this year the year I would finally relay, but after hearing the stories from others, I gave it serious thought and eventually wrote about it.  Nothing however could have prepared me for what I was going to feel, having participated in not only my first Relay for Life, but San Tan Valley's too.

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s largest event and the world’s biggest fundraiser with more than 3 million participants.

To make this even more exciting San Tan Valley is going to have its own Relay for Life this year!
