The Arizona Children’s Association has been in the backyard of Apache Junction residents for more than a decade.

The association that started in 1912 has spent a century helping keep families together and even creating new ones. The regional office, 2066 W. Apache Trail Suite 101/112, opened in 2004 and does recruitment throughout the year for adults who are eager to become foster parents but they also do much more than that.

How cool would it be to think of something small you needed, and then “print” the item three-dimensionally and hold it in your hand?  That is what students at three high schools will be doing, thanks to the San Tan Valley Think Tank and Pinal County Attorney’s Office.

Combs High School, San Tan Foothills High School, and Poston Butte High Schools received 3-D MakerBot printers which will help students learn to design, engineer, and then actually make small items, turning CAD files into physical objects “printed” in plastic or metal. Newer MakerBot models include ceramic, wood pulp, and even sugar as printing materials.

Banner Health will offer an open house to highlight its new “Banner Children’s Healthmobile” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Banner Ironwood Medical Center, 37000 N. Gantzel Road.

The healthmobile is a mobile health unit which will travel to schools throughout the Valley each week to provide primary care for thousands of uninsured and underinsured children. The new service begins Monday, Jan. 14.

Since arriving from California in 2000, Todd House has made it a point to be active in his community.  From the Kiwanis Club to Paws 4 Life, the new District 5 Supervisor has been busy helping residents in and around the Apache Junction area.

On Friday, January 11th, 2013 at 6:50 p.m. the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle head-on-collision on Combs Road just west of Kenworthy in San Tan Valley.

The investigation determined a minivan was traveling eastbound properly within its lane. The SUV was traveling westbound but crossed over the raised median, over several cacti and crashed head-on into the minivan. The driver of the gray minivan (female age 51), the front seat passenger (male age 20) and two children both females age 7 and 10 were all injured in the crash and taken to local hospitals.

At Coolidge Unified School District’s January 9th regular Governing Board meeting, Outstanding Service Awards were presented to employees from Mountain Vista Middle School and San Tan Foothills High School.

Eva Carranza and Gary Carbonneau were recognized for their hard work and dedication to the students of Coolidge Unified School District.  

While making hospital rounds in the newborn nursery over the years, mothers and fathers alike have routinely had dozens of questions pertaining to their newborn - which I might add is a very welcome gesture. A particular question comes on more frequently in my experience than others and this same question commonly comes up again around the fourth month of life. Yes, you guessed right. It has to do with cosmetic concerns and yes, it’s the shape of the head question.

The history of the community newspaper in the United States is as long as the history of the country itself. For generations, residents have depended on their local papers for news that affects their day-to-day life and brings them together as a community. San Tan Valley is now covered by such a paper as the Southeast Valley Ledger was printed for the first time last August. One of a publishing group of six newspapers covering Pinal County, the Southeast Valley Ledger reports on news and events in both San Tan Valley and Queen Creek. Published the first and third Thursday of the month, the Ledger provides local, family-friendly coverage celebrating schools, businesses and individuals making San Tan Valley the great community it is today.
